Three years ago, I was introduced to the work of Dr. Karyn Purvis when I attended an Empowered to Connect simulcast. I was not prepared for the tremendous impact that the training would have on my life! For those who aren't familiar with Empowered to Connect or Trust Based Relational Interventions, take a deep breath and prepare to dive into the depths of relevant education and support for foster and adoptive families!

Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI) was developed to meet the needs of families who are caring for "children from hard places". Through a vast array of research, the professionals at Texas Christian University have become familiar with the variances in brain development, neurotransmitter imbalances, and particular sensory issues that children who have been exposed to substance use, trauma, or loss (in utero or post birth) experience.
I initially attended the training to increase my understanding and ability to educate the families that I work with in my counseling practice and adoption home study profession. But I found that the tools, techniques and perspectives offered through the training were ones that I wanted to employ in my own family, with my bio kiddos!
The 2017 Simulcast will be broadcast on April 7 and 8th. Southern Hills Baptist Church in Tulsa is hosting the simulcast at a very low cost to attendees - $6.00 for the workbook! Honestly, this seminar is worth so much, you can't afford not to be there! I invite all adoptive and fostering parents, parents who are struggling to connect with their children, parents who are working to regain custody of their children, educators, ministry leaders, grandparents, and mental health professionals to come!
